Cash -- Cash gifts are always welcome and are tax deductible as long as the donor itemizes his or her deductions. The tax savings from the deduction will depend on the donor's tax rate and other factors. Many donors choose to make a pledge in support of Upper Room Ministries that enables them to consider a larger investment with payments over a period of months or years. Securities and Mutual Fund Shares -- Giving appreciated assets is an excellent way to maximize your charitable contribution to Upper Room Ministries. Because of capital gains considerations, it is more beneficial to contribute appreciated securities directly to Upper Room Ministries rather than to sell them and donate the proceeds of the sale. For depreciated securities, it is usually best to sell the assets outright and then donate the proceeds to Upper Room Ministries.
