Extra Gloves

Read 2 Corinthians 9:6-15

God is able to give you more than you need, so that you will always have all you need for yourselves and more than enough for every good cause.

-2 Corinthians 9:8 (TEV)

WHILE sorting my mother's clothes after her death, for some reason I put her good gloves in my coat pocket, even though I had my own. A few weeks later, on a bitterly cold morning, I took my car for inspection before going to work. The young woman who was testing my car was working with bare hands that were red and chapped. I asked her if she had any gloves. When she responded, "No," I remembered Mom's gloves in my pocket. I handed them to her, and she put them on as she worked. As I watched her, I thought of my mother and how she gave to others.

When the young woman was finished, she took off the gloves to hand them back. I shook my head and told her they were hers to keep. She thanked me with some disbelief. I smiled and told her my mother would have wanted her to have them.

I knew then why I had put Mom's gloves in my pocket. God used them to show me that by sharing with others, I was honoring my Mom as well as expressing the love of God.
